Culture
PAGE IN PROGRESS
What you see here is a page of my hypertext book Me, Looking for Meaning. Initially empty, it will slowly be filled with thoughts, notes, and quotes. One day, I will use them to write a coherent entry, similar to these completed pages. See this post to better understand my creative process. Thank you for your interest and patience!

Instead of instincts, but same purpose: survival of the species
meanings and stories (Harari, Sapiens, see beginning of chapter 9 for definition of culture )
the more complicated the culture is > the more complicated meanings and stories are needed to maintain it
Cultures are in constant flux because (according to Harari) of their inner contractions
made-up social order
unwinding anxiety, part 0, chapter 3, on cultural change:
” The rate of change in our world over the last twenty years far outstrips all the changes in the previous two hundred years. Our brains and bodies haven’t kept up, and it’s killing us.”
culture as a virus; people catch and transmit culture often as passive carriers (think about your kids bringing from school certain trends and behaviors); Harari talks about culture as parasitic. See also Selfish Gene about memes. (see the entry in POWER or meanings // MEANING of power)
