Meaning of life from the individual’s perspective is different from the meaning of life from society’s perspective. From society’s perspective, the meaning/purpose of individual life is the survival of the species. In this sense, we are not much different from ants busily running around. Ants also have rules, communication, hierarchy. And for ants it does not matter if one does as long as the majority survives. See the idea developed by Harari in “Sapiens” - why did the humanity move to agriculture if it created more suffering than relief for individuals: because it ensured population growth, which is essential for the survival of the species.
