Meanings Wars
PAGE IN PROGRESS
What you see here is a page of my hypertext book Me, Looking for Meaning. Initially empty, it will slowly be filled with thoughts, notes, and quotes. One day, I will use them to write a coherent entry, similar to these completed pages. See this post to better understand my creative process. Thank you for your interest and patience! :)

Some call it culture wars, but I call it meaning wars. They are not new, although modern media made them some much more visible and dramatic.
We belongs to different meaning communities. Meaning wars happen when we are vehemently opposed to meanings of other communities.
Way out of meaning works: understand how meanings work, becoming more humble and empathic, more curious about other people's meanings.
Although meanings are not absolute or natural, people can be very emotionally attached to them. Ruining a sacred burial place of a tribe. Questioning what it means to be "man" and "woman". In both cases someone can say: these are just meanings and they can be questioned. Which is true, but we should also understand that questioning these meanings can be emotionally extremely difficult, next to impossible for some people. We need to approach them with kindness, not anger and/or the feeling of moral superiority.
